Breaking News: Kornheiser Will Be Back For A Third Year Of MNF

Tuesday, January 08, 2008

Well this an interesting way to start the day. First Joe Gibbs is re-retiring and now Tony Kornheiser is going to be back for a third season of Monday Night Football according to Newsday's Neil Best.....

Tony Kornheiser plans to return to "Monday Night Football." "I have no reason to believe I'm not at the moment; I think I have a contract," he said. ESPN executive VP Norby Williamson said: "We are thrilled with our 'Monday Night Football' team and expect Tony back next season."
Thrilled huh? That's exactly what I was thinking.

I'm shocked, actually.

I know TK has the self-deprecating humor thing going all the time, but he really looked and sounded like a guy who might be out of gas when it came to MNF. I really thought he'd announce he was too old and couldn't handle the travel and couldn't stay up that late anymore.

I know it's sooo fashionable to hate TK .. I mean, I know a lot of people genuinely don't like him, but I do like TK. Most of the time anyway.

At least he stopped talking for about 90 percent of the show this year after Jimmy Kimmel called him out.

Maybe ESPN will make some new commercials for MNF this year instead of using the same 4 with different games on the TV. How many babies is that woman going to have?!

Look at the bright side -- think of the ESPN personalities that would be clamoring for that spot if he left. Tirico and Jaws do an OK job, so you know they would screw it up. That's what you get when you become a retirement home for athletes.

I never thought Tony Kornheiser was going to leave MNF becaue he knows its a great gig, and he is more conferable now in the booth than he was wehn he starterd. And he gets aloing better with Jaws than he ever had with that windbag Joe Theisman.

I enjoy Tony on the radio and on PTI, just not on MNF. As with D. Miller, I 'm not looking for "intentional" humor in my football. I want analysis and perhaps on off-the-cuff banter and the funny screw up/phrase usage.

I'm not looking to have humor and/or reverence shoved down my throat.

Agree with Jake. Tony, please stick to PTI...and radio if you like. Looks like another year of watching with the sound down.

I'm thrilled TK is staying, the same as I am thrilled when I step on a board with rusty nails and they go through my foot.

I have always thought Wilbon would be a better fit.

Tony reminds me of Stimpy on Ren and Stimpy. All I can think of when he says "but Jaws...." for the 50th time is "but Ren..."

He is pathetic and needs to go. Name one insight he has provided?

The Skins should promote Gregg Williams. I don't want Bill Cowher.

I'd rather have Theismann than TK. At least Theismann makes me laugh with some of his statements. TK just annoys me.

I'd prefer to throw in Vermeil or even Blackledge, maybe a defensive player for some know how

(that to me is why the Stockton-Moose-Goose trifecta is fascinating to me, you get info for both sides of the ball)

The thing that KILLS MNF is the forced "drop ins" by celebrities or cross promotion

I agree with Jeff H., those third quarter drop ins were terrible and they lasted forever! My father-in-law and I would watch the games and both of us thought the guys talked entirely too much and more often than not, it wasn't terribly relevant to the actual game.

I could not agree more. Those Celb drop ins in the booth are a waste of time and I don't understnd why ESPN cna't see that. They should get rid of those stupid drop ins.
