Your First Look At The 2008 MLB Postseason Campaign

Monday, July 14, 2008

I figured since I just gave you the news that the Frank TV ads were back that I'd give you some good news. No Dane Cook this year! Big League Stew has the ad that will be gracing your television over the next few months on FOX and TBS....

Okay seriously, what was that? I hate to say this but I miss Dane Cook. Well that's not entirely true but if I had to choose between the two I might have to consider picking him over this random dude typing ala a blogger/reporter.

Update: Thanks to the sleuth-like abilities of all of you we learn that the gentleman in the ad is "Spanish" from Old School. Good work.

BLS premiere: the '08 MLB Playoffs ad, now with less Dane Cook (Big League Stew)

That isn't a random blogger. That is actor Rick Gonzalez who played roles in Old School, Coach Carter, and Roll Bounce.

It's not John Leguizamo?

Hahaha! Remember in Old School when he holds up the beer bong at Will Ferrell and says "YOU NEED TO HIT THIS RIGHT HERE!"?

Think about where they could've gone with THAT as their ad campaign...

But seriously, it's good.

Oh good call everyone...I didn't even pay attention over the crapiness.

Awful, but that seems about in line with MLB's marketing/slogans over years past.

Again about two years too late with using a blogger, like Dane Cook was two years past his prime when they used him.

Am I the only one who finds it silly that the pro leagues advertise their postseason? People are going to watch anyway right? Do people really see the commercials and think "Hey the baseball playoffs are coming up, think I will check that out?" 95% of their audience knows when the games are and will watch them anyway, it just seems silly to run commercials.

I agree with anon at 2:50. It seems like all sports do it. I've never understooed why.

I would rather have a 30 second shot of Bud Selig eating a bowl of cereal.

Should have a 30-second spot of Selig awkwardly standing up with his hands in his pockets like when Bonds his 756 ... because it is THAT exciting.

I agree with the comments though about "why are they advertising?" no kidding, WTF?

There's only one October. Oh, and it happens over and over again.

Take the NHL commercial for the playoffs and compare it to this... It's one thing (and probably the only thing) where NHL marketing just completely whips MLB's ass.

Anything without that no-talent hack Dane Cook is an improvement, but I couldn't help but notice a definite NY bias in the teams shown in the commercial (a risk seeing as neither NY team might make the playoffs).
